new note cards

Got the gocco out yesterday during a baby hiatus (thanks poppy and ena!) and printed up some lovely little thank you cards to send in packages.

I even made enough to sell a couple sets in my etsy store. How productive!

arrrggg yaaarrrnnnn

I bought a big, beautiful pound of wool from maryjanesattic.etsy.com last week after going a bit nuts spinning last month. I am getting better, I can just feel it when I am spinning. But still have a long way to go.

Anyhoo, I got bit by the kool aid bug again and decided to dye it after spinning up 60 yards.

Here it is soaking before taking it's bath with the dye:

Whoops, should have worn gloves!

All cozy in its bath, probably a little too cozy:

The aftermath:

In hindsight, I should have let it roam around a little more freely in the dye bath, but I just get too darn worried about it felting if I touch it too much. I do still like it, just not what I had envisioned when starting out. I will have to wait to see how it looks crocheted up before making my final judgment.

The bento strikes again!

Yesterday we got to hang out with the Quick clan (aka Leah, Andrew, Lilly, and Autumn) and of course Leah being the absolute dear she is brought me a present for Mama's Day. And knowing me as well as she does, got me this super cute book on charaben:

Face Food: The Visual Creativity of Japanese Bento Boxes

Well I was totally inspired to make a bento last night because of this. So I attempted a koi which I am pretty happy with how it came out. I only had flour tortillas on hand to make the body but I want to try again with white cheddar or marble jack. I wish I had time to make one everyday - this totally reminded me how much fun these are.

Why can't I stop?

I seriously need to join crafters anonymous. I just can't stop picking up new things to make and do. Never mind that I already have an arsenal of craft supplies, I always just need one more thing. This month's adventure is in the form of spinning.

My third yarn, merino wool, about 35 yards:

My fourth yarn but first one I dyed (using kool-aid):

Totally mesmerized by handmade yarns I have seen at stores and craft shows, I just couldn't help wanting to learn. So as a mother's day present to myself, I got a drop spindle kit from etsy and I am totally addicted!

Ack! When will the craft compulsion end!?!?

Meet me in St. Louie

Or just meet my jewelry.

My jewelry will now be for sale at the Laumeier Sculpture Park museum gift shop! The Laumeier Sculpture Park is over 105 acres of open air museum awesomeness, as well as indoor exhibition galleries. So if you are in the St. Louis area, you should absolutely check it out.

Knittin'

Hooray! After a too long hiatus from, well just about everything but taking care of the Ame bean, I am back to crafting! And I finally finished my first knitting project. It is not the easiest thing in the world to go from crocheting to knitting - it's a whole new way to hold your hands. And thank goodness for the continental method (which is using your opposite hand to hold yarn versus the English method), otherwise I would have never gotten it.

So I made the obligatory first scarf, with all the normal newbie mistakes. It's actually a cowl but same difference I guess. Now I just need to wait forever until I can actually wear it.
